What do you think of the shoot-out in the NHL?

shoot outs are not really telling of who really won the game. I remember in the Olympic when Canada lost to Czech republic in a shootout Canada was all over then in the first over time Czechs had nothing Canada would have stomped a mud hole in there butts but the shoot out saved them. Hockey is a team game teams win not one guy and the goalie. Shoot outs are for the fans only. Just picture yourself giving it your all you have the other team on there heels in over time you know just a few more minutes and you've got em beat then buzzer sounds its shoot-out time you lose. down with the shoot-out go to one 20 minute over time if no score then shoot-out. Not very often does a whole period go by without a goal in the new NHL and certainly not in overtime play.

It definitely ends an otherwise long game but to me it kind of takes away the excitement of the originally played game itself.

it certainly ends up ruining the tempo of the game and takes the finish from being a team sport to an individual's merits.... there's no I in TEAM

It is enjoyable to watch. . . but I believe it is a cop-out.

I would rather have them play and play until someone scores . . . sudden death over-time like in the playoffs.

To be honest I really enjoy it. Ties are lame and it would be too hard on the players to have to play triple-OT games as often as they would have to. But I think they should remove it for the playoffs.

i agree with thirdday. I also enjoy watching the shoot-outs, it was a new twist in the nhl but it wasnt anything major, at least it wasnt in my opinion. i too think they should be discarded during the playoffs.

Its alright, but I like old school hockey with ties, but then again ties suck so shootout is the average fans excitement. So its good for the NHL and the NHL isn't the only hockey so its not like its ruining the game.

I like the idea to have a shootout, but I think they should modify it. If they make you sit on your but to watch 2 1/2 hours of hockey just for it to end in a 3-minute shootout. What they should do is make every member on a team shoot and see who gets the most goals. I don't like it because they won't use it in the playoffs. If everybody gets adjusted to the shootout in the regular season, they will feel different in the playoff's overtime periods because they won't go to a shootout.

As a former player and a fan, I prefer settling the game by play on the ice or just give out the tie. I understand the excitement factor, but still don't like it.

it adds a fresh twist which average fans should enjoy, as long as its kept out of the playoff its fine. the regular season doesn't mean much anyways

HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT!!! It is no way to settle a 65 min. game of 40 players in 2 min and just the 2 goalies and the 6 "best shooters", like was said team sport, hello

I think it is fun to watch with all the amazing goals, but it puts too much preasure on 2 goalies and 6 shooters. Ties should be settled by the whole team working together to score in overtime.

It's exciting to watch--but that's about it. I would much rather have games decided on by sudden death overtime (playoff style). I believe there should be a winner in each game--but shoot-outs are not a good way to decide which team won a 60 minute game.
