Well, the best way is to not wait till Earth day to try to save the earth.
Uhm, you could make a commitment today to be more careful from now on about recycling and re-using things, as opposed to throwing stuff away. That would be easy.
You could grab a trash bag and take a walk in your neighborhood, picking up trash on the ground and disposing of it properly. Not to strenuous and you can do it in an hour or less. Maybe get some friends to go with you, thereby making it fun and getting more done.
Make a conscious effort to use less electricity today. Turn off lights, don't use your tv, radio, etc. Maybe even skip the air conditioning for a day.
Save on gas by walking everywhere for the day.
Conserve water; try to not leave your taps running.

Get off line, QUICK! You're using power, and you may also want to turn off your lights and just head outdoors for a nice, long leisurely walk. And don't stop to purchase a coffee or beverage while you're out today, because the container will just be added to the landfill. Nor should you have the enjoyment of 'lighting up a smoke' of any sort, since that only adds to the pollution factor. Now go enjoy yourself!

Let's all try to help save the Earth everyday, not just on Earth Day. One day of trying won't do anything for the long-term survival of this planet. It must be a conscious, daily effort support by everyone. Or, well, at least most.

Don't drive today. Just one day spent walking or riding a bike could make a difference. And it would send a message to the world that us westerner's could actually live for one day with out consuming huge quantities of oil.

Plant trees, not just on Earthday, plant flowers, trees, everything around your house, get your neighborhood together to beautify.
It's said that you get an extra year of life for every tree you plant. My step-mom's grandfather lived to be 104, he was a farmer.
