Is nanotechnology going to be the next technological revolution?

We have seen great progress in technology over the last 200 years: Industrial, Atomic, Space, Information.

There's much research into nanotechnology. Is nanotech already making a technological impact? What do you think would be the next nanotech advances?

Not the next one. Nano isn't about just being small, it's about manipulating from the atom structure up. We are still a long way off, particularly in our understanding of sub atomic partical state. Genetics is the next big revolution, it's just been a long time coming.

It could be the next step, but at the moment the jury's out. I'm waiting for the wisdom to catch up with the tech to make it a true revolution. It hasn't happened yet, sadly.

I think the technology, in combination with artificial intelligence techniques, may revolutionize medicine.

I think it will be between nanotechnology and genetic engineering. Both will change our world in incredibly dramatic ways.

I think it will be advanced in the medical industry, computing and eek warfare. Its a very costly business and very fiddly. I cant see it taking off that well because of the cost and maintenance of such small mechanisms.

Genetics was the 'next big thing' 20 years ago GATPOO, Nanotech is currently being used but not in the sense of tiny robots that zoom around us, its being used to treat tumours by injecting them with small granules of iron(?). The healthy cells let the iron pass, whereas the cancerous ones beacuse of their smaller nature stop the granules in their tracks, once exposed to radiation the cancerous cell are targetted more effectivley and thus treatment is more precise and less intensive as oppsed to tradional chemotherapy

For current applications and advances in nanotechnology, take a look at this website. Aspen Aerogels is a new (roughly 5 years) and upcoming business, and once this company (and others like it) goes IPO, I think you will start to see nanotechnology impact our daily lives.
