How turn computer monitor into mirror?

Hi. Does anyone know if it's possible to use a background that would essentially turn my computer monitor into a mirror? Scanning a mirror doesn't work.

This is funny on so many levels. I can't believe you attempted to scan a mirror!

This answer wasn't as informative as other answers, but it made me laugh, so I had to choose it as the best answer.

Anyway, it seems like it may be possible, maybe not now, but with future monitors.

No. I don't want to just look at myself. I just want a really funky background for my screen.
A solid black screen on my computer acts as a mirror, so try setting your background to a high gloss solid black.

You should be able to run a webcam and embed it at your screen resolution into active desktop in windows. Active Desktop will act like an html page and show the webcam feed if you code it in right. That way you can still have icons and files on the desktop and the background would still mirror you.

It's so odd that someone asked this question. I've been telling people that it's possible for a couple years now. Check it out, mirrors are made with tin, silver, chemical activator, copper and paint. All of these things can be reprodu... I'm running out characters, point is 'code can replicate'

Didn't anyone google "mirror TV"?

yay for making the fail blog!

The cover of my cell phone has a mirror surface and when I get a message, a little message symbol lights up underneath - so what if you got some one-way mirror-type material (mylar?) and covered your screen with that, and turned up your monitor brightness? It actually might work, somewhat.

Download and install VLC player, use a webcam as source and make VLC show video as Direct X wallpaper.

I can't believe you think it's possible 'maybe not now, but with future monitors'. You just can't catch smart, can you?

Basically, you can use anything as a mirror as long as it has a dark background and a glassy surface.

So you need to set your background black, and you will be able to look at yourself. It's not perfect but it's a solution.

Congrats on being a jackass that's famous! I'm stumbling this.

I know what you did wrong.
Before scanning your mirror, you need to flood your scanner with plenty of water to create a contact buffer between the mirror and scanner, cold water works best actually. Doing so will cut the reflection out of the mirror, and save it for the screen! ;-)

The poster obviously already has a mirror, as they tried to scan it. The best solution is to just tape the mirror that you were scanning to your monitor or something. The only problem that I see in this is that there may be things on your monitor that you need in the area that you tape the mirror.

YOIU MADE THE FAIL BLOG *CLAPS*

monitors can not become mirrors because monitors are projection screens and do not reflect light on the same level as mirrors
basically, did you fail 5th grade?

These people are just trying to make fun of you they dont understand that it can actually be done! Its extremely easy actually. All you do is press and hold in this order..

Ctrl+Alt+Delete and in rapid succession repeat.

Theoretically if your using linux you could make a live feed from your webcam to either a streaming video file or if your feeling spunky you could use a image file updated by your camera webcam style. The video would then be set to the root of your X server which would put it on-top your background.

there is screen protectors that you stick on to you screen that r a mirror when your screen is off and clear when you screen is on. they have them out for PDA's and Nintendo DS so it will only be a mater of time before you will see them for LCD screens
