NOT a good idea-topamax with alcohol will cause CNS (central nervous system) depression. If you are on topamax for seizures-alcohol can increase you risk of having a seizure. If you are on it for headaches obviously alcohol can cause headaches.

it's always risky to mix alcohol with drugs. You stand a chance of going into seizures or a stroke. If you feel you cannot live without alcohol try a twelve step program to learn to live without drinking.

OK, everyone is saying no, so I'm going to go ahead and go against the crowd. I'm on topamax for migraines, and my doctor says it's OK for me to drink alcohol IN MODERATION!! I'm sure you get the emphasis:) can i ask how much you are on? also if you're on it for seizures i'm sure it's different than for migraines. I'm on topamax for migraines so I'm only on 100mg and i will have one or two drinks socially once a week generally. I'm not a heavy drinker, but I've found it hasn't caused any problems and my doctors haven't given me any reason to be concerned. although if i were drinking regularly, such as once a night, or even more frequently, possibly that would be more reason for concern. i don't know if you're a migraineur, but if you are, here's an interesting tip i read that I've found to hold true for me: vodka is the most tolerated liquor for those with migraines. I don't know how true that is for others, but hey, i like vodka, so it works for me:) Anyway, drinking in moderation and socially is safe, and to be honest, I have had a few nights when I've gotten a little out of hand and I'm still here to talk about it. I've you're concerned, discuss it with your prescribing doctor or even the pharmacist.
