Why is the Chinese government blocking media access?

Why is the Chinese government blocking the truth from getting out on China's real position on Burma, Tibet and Taiwan, on corruption in the government, and business cutting corners to make a few pennys. The Chinese people are out of touch with the real truth. Have they been brainwashed. What do you think we can do about this?

It is simple. Because of the "fear" and "face" of the government.
They don't want the citizen to know how world depict China, and its history and politics.
The "truth" in the world can be a "threat" for the government in the future.

**** the Communist Chinese government! Why can't they all just die (the government guys)?! Why do they do stupid things?! And that's coming from us Chinese people too, so that must mean something.
Once the people in China realize the stupidity of the government, I hope they'll do something.

despite the governments capitalism style on economics, the government is still very communistic. their philosophy has been to control dissemination of information. if you keep everyone in the dark, the people are easier to control. or so they think. it is a typical characteristic of all communist governments. Examples are: Former Soviet Union, Cuba, Angola, and coming soon: Venezuela (which is considered a leftist dictatorship, but the same difference)

Why did America lie to the world about the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and illegally invaded and occupied it ?
Truth is always bitter to the ugly Americans, all those Yankees who have given me thumbs down votes are worse than the so-called Chinese commies.

The Chinese government blocks media access so that no one knows...

    1. how many pro-democratic civilians and students were massacred in Tian An Mien Square by machine guns and tanks.
    2. how many Christians, who have to worship underground are being prosecuted.
    3. how many Tibet monks are being thrown into jails and starve to death.
    4. how many prisoners are being sent to hospitals, not firing squads, for the removal of their organs to be sold for money.
    5. how much bribes the government officials are taking and how much money they have embezzled.

The Communist party of China is not by the people and for the people. You should have freedom of speech.

Actually China is far more free than you know.

There are many blogs and forums talking about politics. But they are written in Chinese, you can't read them.

Besides,Chinese are NOT out of touch with the truth, we can 'enjoy' all the bashing&troll here in YA! But most of them are written in English,so they can't understand them, either.

I dislike it when western people get on their high horses and give China a bit of a bashing. Have you ever been there? Have you ever spoken to many Chinese people? All governments exercise control over their people, to greater or lesser extents. The war on Iraq for example, how was that justified? Many people thought it was justified because of weapons of mass destruction that were supposedly hidden there, or how Saddam was such a tyrant we couldn't let him keep power. However no WMDs were found and it seems like Iraq is worse off this is 'freedom' than before. It was in fact western governments that coaxed the 'free thinking' public into supporting it.

Governments contort the truth to keep people's favour. Every government does it, because governments are ultimately kept in power by the people. Even a dictator could be overthrown, and many have been, if the public revolted. China's government has always been subject to nepotism and I doubt that will ever change because the Chinese value family very highly and although it shouldn't lead to nepotism and cronyism, it does. Many Chinese people still hold on to Confucian beliefs that a 'democracy' isn't the perfect nature of a government. Instead they believe in having virtuous leaders working for the people, who appoints them doesn't really matter. Of course, this is very hard to implement in practise but what makes you think that democracy is the height of civilisation? I know many people I do not think deserve to vote, ignorant unwise people or hateful and vile people. Chinese people on the whole enjoy an almost hive-minded togetherness and are generally not exceptionally radical thinkers. The Chinese I know seem happy with the current government, for the most part it works to better the nation for the people.

On the subject of free speech and freedom of information I am inclined to agree that it should not be hindered, and I think that if the government were to let information flow more freely they would be surprised at how well the people took it. In general the Chinese people are not deluded, it's just that information takes longer to flow.

As for what 'we can do about this' what gives us the right to do anything about it? It is only in your eyes that something is horribly wrong with China and that it needs to be freed. Perhaps you are looking for another Iraq or Vietnam, but China does not need that. The Chinese are happy as they always have been in simply being Chinese.

I think it is because the population is ok with it so far. The only time things will change is if people are no longer agreeing with it.
