roughly speaking, there are 1000 bytes in a kilobyte, 1000 kilobytes in a megabyte, and a 1000 megabytes in a gigabyte. That's not exact, but pretty close.

1 Kilobyte is 1024 - 1 Meg is 1024 * 1024 = 1048576
1 Gig is 1024 * 1 Meg
1 Terabyte is 1 Gig * 1024
