How to give around the holidays to charities?

what are some charties or organizations that are like a monthly or yearly donation? i was thinking about asking for something like that for christmas? like to adopt a kid and give $$$ that are a real site or a an imal or anything along the line?

I've sponsored a child through World Vision for years and love it - especially getting the updates with a new photo of my child.

There are also several charities that have online gift catalogues where you can buy a family seeds and tools, or an animal, or supply books to a school, etc. Here are ones that do that and their links:

Most school have food drives. Collecting cans and other nonperishable foods. If you are in school or know anyone in school. Give what you can to them and they can turn it in to their teachers. If you have an orphanage in your town you can talk to whoever runs it and organize a small drive with the people in your town or just with a group of friends buying gifts for the children.

What I like to do is tell people to go get a Salvation Army angel tree kid and buy a gift for them for my Christmas Gift.

There are tons of good charities out there that take monthly or yearly donations, though... The United Way, Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Salvation Army, and tons of others. : ) I like your giving spirit, and that is very admirable and unselfish of you.
