Entry Level Salary for Help Desk position?

Hi Everybody,

I just got offered a help desk position at this financial services company. What they offered me was lower than what I expected. I am entry level and don't have any previous help desk experience. However, I do have alot of customer service experience and although my education background does not reflect my technical skills. I do have technical skills, at least more than enough for help desk.

I am curious as to what is a rather average starting salary range for entry level help desk in a pretty big city (philadelphia)

and should I negotiate my salary or vacation days?

Thanks for the replies

According to PayScale.com, the median entry level salary for Help Desk Representative in the U.S. is $32,390. And the typical range of salary for a Help Desk Representative in Philadelphia is $31,045 - $41,918. I've included a couple of links below that you might find interesting. You'll see that factors such as industry and employment setting have an impact on Help Desk salaries. If you're entry level, you don't have much to negotiate with. Stay with the position for 90 days and then request an increase if one isn't offered.

I live in KC and for someone with no technical working experience in IT or with help desk(entry level) you can expect anywhere from 8-12 an hour and to get 12 you would have to probably have to have a degree in IT of some sort.

hope this helps....level I or entry level help desk wont pay you much more than you could expect at McDonalds but work hard and prove yourself and move to level II as quick as you can from there you can start to look for an engineering position of some sort...
