So now it's official! Toshiba has dumped the hd-dvd! What does this mean for the 360!!?

A lot of people are bashing microsoft for this but ,even though i am a PS3 owner,let's not underestimate microsoft.We are talking about a huge Multi-billion corporation run by one of the most richest,ruthless,aggressive businessman on the entire planet.Microsoft can easily adapt and where is it said that they can't have access to Blue-ray! I won't be surprised that there probably will be a new version of a 360 with Blue-ray in the near future.MONEY can do and change anything and MONEY is one thing that MICROSOFT HAS EXTREMELY PLENTY OF!It is not Sony,Microsoft or Nintendo that created a "console war" It is us,the consumer!!!You don't hear of a "tv war,even though there are hundreds of tv companies out there!I feel sory for the people who bought the hd-dvd add on from microsoft and EB games just announced that there will be no trade in for the MS hd-dvd add on!I won't even hold my breath that MS will reimburse it"s loyal fan base!After all MS never really cared about the consumer.GREEDY

It's not going to affect the 360 whatsoever because the 360 uses and will continue to use DVD-9. It will not use Blu-ray disks for games. Let's say that MS decides to make games on Blu-ray disks. What if you're the casual gamer, and you picked up a game that requires the 360 with Blu-ray, but you don't have a 360 with Blu-ray? You can't exactly return it because it's opened. What can you do? Sell it someone else and take a loss? You can, but I think you will think that it sucks. One of the constant about games is that there's only 1 format for it. With different formats, it will become too confusing for casual gamers.

There's really no point for MS to make a 360 with a Blu-ray player because it will only drive up the cost of the 360, and as it stands right now, the 40 gb PS3 is almost the same price as a premium 360. Would you rather pay more for a 360 with Blu-ray or pay less for a PS3 with Blu-ray. My guess is that you'll rather pay the cheaper PS3 than the more expensive 360.

I'm not worried what Microsoft will do next.
First of all, Microsoft needs to make a more reliable Xbox 360 before they even think about the possibility of incorporating Blu-Ray into the Xbox 360 that's for sure.

Also, even if Microsoft re-launched the Xbox 360 with a built in Blu-Ray drive, the price on the cheapest Xbox 360 model would jump at least $100 dollars.

There's no way that Microsoft would make it manadatory for all 360 owners to buy a new 360 with Blu-Ray or a 360 Blu-Ray DVD attachment just to play Xbox 360 games.

There are some talks about Microsoft adopting Blu-Ray for the 360, but I could care less what they are up to. If Microsoft can't make a reliable console they shouldn't even be in the console business for god's sake.

Edit: However, Blu-ray's victory will most likely not have an impact at all on the Xbox 360 because it still uses outdated standard DVD's that were used on LAST gen consoles (Xbox and PS2). It's just that developers for the Xbox 360 will continue to have issues with fitting one game on a standard DVD disc. To cope with the issue, Microsoft will most likely be releasing games on multiple discs in the future.

ahh i read about this yesterday morning.
I personally don't think it will affect xbox sales much as people never bought it just for a hd-dvd add on in the first place. all it really means for xbox owners is, if they bought the hd-dvd add on they've wasted a bit of cash. But now they could buy the entire hd-dvd catalogue for dirt cheap prices.

As for ps3 owners, the fact that blu-ray is now going to be the next generation of dvd will definitely shift more units but i doubt it will make a huge difference in the latest raging console war that is on.

i don't think people will be swayed towards buying a ps3 just because of it's blu-ray drive, as now there is a chance the 360 could see a blu-ray drive add on.

I think MS might make an addon drive, but I don't think they'll ever make a 360 with built in Blu-ray drive.
