I am writing an informative speech on soccer, and I just can't come up with an intro, any help please?

I already know I want my sub topics to be rules and regulations of soccer, popularity and passion of the game and major league soccer, I need to have an intro, 3 body paragraphs and a conclusion, my speech teacher says for our introduction we either need to create suspense, ask a question, tell a story or make a statement, and throughout the whole paragraph we have to stick with whatever we chose, for example If i chose ask a question I might say, did you know soccer is the most popular sport in the world? Or perhaps that it is called football in every country except america and some parts of canada? Or how about the fact that in this years summer olympics argentina took home the gold for men's soccer and the women of the united states took home the gold?, I just have to keep asking questions, and I have to have 6-8 sentences , but the thing that is wrong with the pieces above is that i think i gave to much info for it to be an infromative speech, and please don't get me wrong, I'm not asking people to do my homewrok, I just need a good maybe starting sentence that would grab the audiences attention, or If you're feeling generous then maybe a whole paragraph, but I won't use exactly what you give me , I will take ideas from it, but please please please help me, I'm stuck and I have 1 body paragrapgh and I'm working on the other, but I really don't want to go any farther without knowing what i'm going to do about the intro!!!!! please and thankyou!!! I am sooo desperate!!

Informative is just that- it gives information. So you need to choose a more narrow topic. Specifically, choose either rules and regulations, popularity and passion of soccer, or something. If you choose popularity and passion, for example, you need something along the lines of "Can you think of a sport that, in some parts of the world, makes the fans go crazy and start riots?" That will begin your introduction. The following 3 paragraphs will give facts, figures, etc. based on your introduction. The conclusion will be more or less a summary. Good luck!

Why don't you do something funny ... like the "round white" football as opposed to the brown oval one.

I don't know whether this will help you much, but I've lived in Germany since 1971, where soccer is THE game - rather equivalent to American football, baseball, basketball. Germans, unlike Americans have next to nothing on patriotism (due to the Hitler regime), which I found quite sad for my own German children. OK, so when they hosted the World Cup in 2006, well, the country went WILD with patriotism in our positive sense of the word - now, you see flags flying, people proud of their country, ect. - and all that because they hosted such a successful world cup. This could give you an interesting intro to your speech. I took it four years in high school, and it's served me well during my lifetime :-))
