Suggestions for quitting marijuana?

Seriously, I've smoked marijuana practicallly every day for the past decade. Now I want to get a good job without circumventing drug testing chemistry in various ways. I really miss marijuana and have substituted alcohol and tobacco for its absence.

Feed your mind with something worthwhile rather than junk chemicals, by studying worthwhile things that will give a sense of accomplishment.

People who are bored do boring self distructive time wasting things.

Get the book, "geometry the easy way", it is well written and can be puchased new at a book store for about 14 dollars. Plan to spend the next 4 months on it, working lots and lots of problems.

It is kinda hard to stop after that long but you can do it, really, you can. Ive stopped smoking just a few months ago after doing it for like 4 years straight. Just keep your mind preoccupied- Workout, go running, get a girlfriend. Once you sart seeing youself improve physically, mentally, and motivationally you will actually thank yourself for quitting- or at least slowing down for the most part. Its just the first 2 or three weeks that will be hard but u can do it! Instead of smoking a blunt/joint, smoke a Black & Mild Wine and have a cherry coke with it.

The first guy gave a good answer. But I will honestly say I don't see a reason for you to quit (other than your work drug tests). Though I will say that I believe such tests are unconstitutional and a direct invasion of personal privacy. Employees are not screened for alcohol (a much more harmful & dangerous drug), so obviously some degree of intoxication is okay. When employers are allowed to run the lives of their employees off-the-clock, we have a serious problem. Drug testing came about in the 1970s for airline pilots. Understandable. But most jobs (practically all of them) that require drug testing these days do not require the responsibility of an airline pilot. I am totally against drug testing. It's YOUR body and what you do with it off-the-clock is YOUR business. I would personally never work for a company that violated my privacy by drug testing me. And I only use cannabis medicinally.

Thumbs down me all you want people, but cannabis is not harmful and much safer and better than alcohol and tobacco, which you are now using in its place. In my opinion, if stopping smoking pot means you will consume more alcohol & tobacco, then you are much better off healthwise to stick with the cannabis. I don't know your reasons for using marijuana (though I can certainly think of many acceptable ones!). That would help me answer your question better. Feel free to email me as I have tons of experience in this area. I'll be open and honest with you and give you the facts. I'm certainly here if you need me. Message me more about your wanting to quit and I'll be happy to help however I can.

Check this out- I'm 53 and seriously considering quitting smoking pot!
There's a certain addictive quality to the herb that is both psychological
and physical. The one or three times I have stopped smoking for
a few months I was amazed at how much fun I had straight. When even
the smallest "pressure" of "negativity" assails my mind, I want to hide
out in "Stone-land", and I feel like a wimp because of that.
My advice for quitting? Just make it through the first three to five days
and pay close attention to any positive results...more sociable...happier.. more energy... As far as alcohol etc. goes...
that stuff will kill you. Finally, need motivation? Go observe some
down-and-out derelicts, drunks and drug addicts and tell yourself
( in STRONG EMOTIONAL terms ) that THAT is how you're going
to end up if you don't straighten up and start LIVING. DAMN!

    Make up your mind.

When I did, in 1973, I just quit. period. That was it. It's not like you have withdrawal.

If you have emotional reasons for needing marijuana or substitute drugs, I'd try AA or NA or therapy to deal with those feelings.

But for now, it sounds like you don't want to quit, but that you'd like to pass a drug test. That's not as motivating as being sick of smoking.
