What injuries have you suffered as a result of mishandling chillies?

After chopping a jalapeno, I rubbed my eyes. They were so red and swollen. They burned like nobody's business. I've never felt pain like that in my life!

I also learned a hard lesson with my disposer: never, NEVER discard the seeds and stems in the garbage disposer. Once the water is mixed with it, the whirling makes the heat of the pepper airborne. I was coughing, my eyes were watering, my lips were burning. It was awful.

Well, not exactly an accident so to speak, but a so-called "friend" told me that rubbing a cut chili on my lips would plump them out a bit. It worked, and I'm still mad at her.

Tingled at first, then got warmer and warmer until it felt like a chemical burn. I ran my mouth under cold water and it got worse. I tried putting chapstick on, and that just seemed to insulate the burning. Finally I decided to ride it out and let the heat go away on its own, but it was terrible. And as for the lip "plumpness," it's not quite as satisfying when it feels like you get swolen instead of cute and plump.

When I used that chapstick later, it made my lips burn again, though not nearly as bad as at first.

chillies do not burn, they just cause the sensation of burning. But it's not pleasant, is it. Affects 'wet' places most, and fingertips, wherever the VR1 receptors are.

When I was five. Handled with some chillies, then proceded to touch me helmet. Ouch. :/

Done the eyes loads of times! Couple of times rubbed my nose and that was a BIG mistake! Never the 'bits' though...... :-)
