I am 56 and still do not use one when I hike some of the roughest terrain in the state. Just something else to carry and keep trsck of. I carry pro photk equip, 2 dat supply of water 3 days worth of food, mess kit, water proof matches, change of clothes, 4 pair of socks, hunting knife and shhh 22 pistol with over 200 rounds of ammo. fist aid kit and a survival kit with other goodies in it. Be prepared- buit don't need no walking stick- if I did I would just make one from a limb off a tree.
