Who would YOU prefer to be more brutally honest with you: your spouse or your friends?

Because sometimes we need that.

And who would YOU prefer to sometimes just listen to you vent and tell you what you want to hear to make you feel better? Because sometimes we need that too.

In other words, who do you go to when you want some positive support, and who do you go to when you want an honest opinion?

Spouse definetely. I think they have a higher tolerance to your shortcomings and know that they should be able to always be honest. Isn't that the most important part of a loving relationship. Honesty?

I think that in my situation friends can be a dangerous game with brutal honesty. I am pretty sure that the bible even discusse this very thing. A sharp tongue (whether honest or not) can destroy friendships. A friend should be able to be honest, but brutality in any relationship whether spouse or friend, should be avoided. That is why there is such a large vocubulary. Choose words wisely...honesty doesn't have to be brutal!

I tend to agree. Mere validation is what your therapist friends are for.
