I need to get a single rivet on a handbag replaced. Where can I have this done?
Or is there a way I can do this cheaply, without having to buy a bunch of specialized tools, myself?

I have several possible solutions that may be helpful - first you can try a dry cleaner or laundry service - some offer this type of service some do not, or any shoe repair shop can do this for you; these two are the most expensive and may even take a couple days, for something that takes about 3 seconds to do. Next you could try a seamstress or anyone who knits or sews clothing etc. they are usually quite good at this type of thing and probably have a comparable replacement rivet on hand. But if you happen to know an auto body repairman then you are in luck - they are pros at any type of riveting you can imagine - their job depends on it and would have the rivet and tool available, and would take less than 5 minutes from start to finish. You don't need to go in the office - just look for one (a service tech) and ask if he could or would do it for you for $5.-10. - a beer or a happy meal (kidding). If none of the above apply: they do sell cheap rivet guns at Harbor Freight etc. with a supply of rivets that you wont ever need or use but if the size you need is included it is simple to do - as easy as using a stapler only with a little more pressure. These cheap tools are good for 1-2 repairs and break but if you only need to do 1 rivet it may be your best bet. hope this helps!

A cobbler (shoe repair person) can fix that easily and cheaply.

Shoe repair places can and do this kind of stuff. They can likely fix it on the spot.
