HELP! Mouse Alert!!!?

I live in NYC and I saw a mouse in my living room today! I was really freaked out! It's an old building so patching up all holes isn't an option. I don't even know where it could have come from.

After a battle of wits (I was trying to catch it with the whole bucket thing and let it out somewhere far from home), I managed to have it in my closet instead, and after taking out all the shoes it ran out and started going crazy on me.

I panicked (I'm totally NOT a fuzzy critter type of girl) and kicked it towards my door, and it ended up in the hallway. I live on the 4th floor and I don't know what to do, will it come back? Will it go into one of my neighbors apartments? (I'd hate anyone else to deal with this crap as well)

I'm quickly developing a phobia and can not sleep or study because I feel things crawling on me or am seeing things all over the place...

Advice is appreciated, just don't crack jokes...I am really stressed about this =\

Mice learn & seem to be pretty smart...Chances are if you kicked it, it's going to find somewhere else to go besides back to your place . It MAY end up at your neighbors, but honestly if you live in NYC and this is the first mouse you've dealt with, consider yourself lucky! (I doubt your neighbors haven't dealt with mice before already...You can warn them, but what good will it do? If it gets in their place, they'll know. )

Most comforting answer *smiles* I will however get those electric traps just in case...

Thank you everyone =}
All I can say is, don't spend 40$ on an electric mouse trap, just learn to set one of the super cheap-o wooden ones that have been used forever, they work, they kill it quickly (usually) and then you can just throw the whole thing away. You could also consider a cat for future prevention lol.
