Is the problem improperly installed vinyl siding?

Question

Pieces of the vinyl siding on our 18 month old home keep blowing off on one side of our house during high winds. No one else's home is affected in our cul-de-sac. Just ours.

Please forgive my ignorance when it come to vinyl siding. I don't know what kind of abuse it's made to take.

Sounds like the wrong length nails were used. When installing vinyl siding, you need to leave the siding loose enough to expand and contract. This requires a bit longer nail since you still need it secured to the sheathing. Most installers leave 1/16 gap between the nail head and the siding.

It's a pretty common problem with some siding. A few spots of glue in the right place can prevent it.

Sounds like they used too short of a nail and/or missed nailing into the studs.

sounds like siding was not installed right, the siding snaps together at the bottom fo the upper layer to the top of lower layer.When not snapped in like it should wind will blow it back and forth till it pulls vinyl panel from nails.
