How can I make simple ranch dressing?
I am from Canada, but living in China. There isn't much flavor here, and the year wouldn't be so painful if I had ranch!!!! Does anyone know how to make ranch dressing with just the basics??
THank you!

You'll need buttermilk and mayonnaise. But 1 teaspoon of white vinegar per ½ cup of milk, will work fine if you can't find buttermilk in China.
Mayonnaise is fairly common throughout the world, so you should be able to find that.
My recipe for Ranch Dressing is one that gets raves from friends and family.
Ranch Dressing
½ Buttermilk
½ Cup Mayonnaise
1 Large clove Garlic, crushed
1½ Tablespoons Finely Minced Onion (red or white onion is best)
1 Teaspoon Thyme
2 Teaspoons Ground Black Pepper
¼ Teaspoon Dill
1 Tablespoon Finely Chopped Parsley
Dash of ground Cayenne pepper (optional)
Whisk or stir all ingredients together, in a small mixing bowl, cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour to allow the flavour to bloom.
You can leave the Dill out if you have trouble finding it in China (it's best with dill, but not crucial). However, Thyme and Black Pepper are a crucial ingredients in Ranch dressing recipes (not just mine).
Also, if Buttermilk and/or white vinegar are very hard to find in China, you might try using plain yogurt, thinned with milk.

- That is so helpful, as now all I have to find is thyme instead of a few ingredients! Whew, I will survive after all!! lol

I'm sorry but I don't. If you really wanted I guess I could send you a box of dry ranch mix. Best I can do. All you'll need is buttermilk, or have someone send you plastic bottles, they can be shipped warm.
