Sun-in with lemon,
http://www.sun-in.com/lemon.asp
but depending on type of dark hair it could go orange tone, or gray tone, be careful, you spray it on and blow dry hot hair dryer, bleaches hair a shade, base is lemon,

you could try lemon juice with sun or sunlamp, or try hair drier,

you could test a clip patch with spray or lemon, and check results before applying to hair,

_____

be careful, and prepared to darken again if color is not good,

If you want to have good results but still save money on changing your hair color, you should try to buy the dye at a local pharmacy store. (like CVS or Duane Reade).

It doesn't cost a lot and you should get good results!
Watch out though, you could mess up your hair if you go from black to light...

    GOOD LUCK!

Drugstore powder hair bleach and developer; the bleach comes in small silver packets (more than enough) and the developer (you'll need at least 20 volume, 30 would be better) is in approx. 4oz bottles. It's meant for going blonde, but if your hair's completely black, it's going to need bleach just to lift it. Just keep your eye on it (maybe do a strand test) and wash it when it reaches your desired color.

You could also bleach it to as light as it will go and then use another dye on top to have a different tone, if the first one is not what you wanted or is too brassy, etc (this would involve buying a demi to go on top of this color either right after or a week or two after bleaching, to give your hair a break).

The bleach packets and developer are about $5 or $6 bucks for both, and should be available at drugstores and beauty supply stores (like Sally Beauty, locations in US and Canada).
