Sprained ankle pain - advice?

Hi guys,

I'm 99% sure that I sprained my ankle yesterday morning. It didn't notice the swelling until a little while later so I didn't 'RICE' it for about 4-5 hours after the injury. Although I didn't walk on it very much either.

It was feeling okay all evening (I continued to use RICE) but now approx, 20 hours after the incident it feels just horrible. Does chronic pain tend to follow after a 1 to 2 mild sprain or should I be worried?

Thanks :)

For a spained ankle your body is following the common path. Continue to use RICE only icing it for 5 to 15 min at a time if any longer you will cause more problems. You need to stay off it as much as possible. Chronic pain is usually defined as pain greater than 6 months so, but yes it will be very sore from days to weeks. Don't be worried, just continue what you are doing.
