I wouldn't do it. I am also 12 and I got my ear pierced at the top with a gun, and it wad fine. Most people say not to do it at homeor with a needle. Guns are much better :)
It will sting for about, 3 seconds and after it will not hurt so don't worry :) and you need to buy some ear cleanser to clean it - but don't take it out and clean the ear. Leave it in and clean it with a cotton bud or something, and don't take it out for a minimum of 6 weeks. Avoid going into swimming pools and beaches and it will heal perfectly!

Eden doesn't know what she is talking about. Guns are awful for all piercings.
Is he going to do it at your house? If so, then it makes me wonder what kind of piercer he really is....if he is going to do it in a piercing studio he works at then that's fine. But houses generally aren't up to the sterilization level that a piercing studio has to be at.

If your Dad does body piercings he should know what hes doing. I had mine done with a needle, but doesn't sound like your Dad is very experienced in this.....unprofessional piercings have a high risk of infection, especially in cartilage. You should wait until you are old enough to get it done properly.

It's more normally done with a needle. If your dad is unsure what to do I'd wait - no offense meant to your dad - and get it done at a piercing parlour
