Emptiness is a horrible feeling.
For thousands of years Judaism taught that not only was the universe created by a Divine Super-Power but that the human being was the pinnacle of creation, created in the image of God, and is the reason for God creating Earth.
As one of the greatest Mussar (Ethics) personalities, the Alter (Elder) of Slabodka wrote:
Adam was formed by the hands of God in His image and endowed with great spiritual powers. After Adam sinned, the lofty attributes of man began to degenerate, and as generation after generation continued to sin, man continued to degrade himself spiritually and physically. Nevertheless, man is still born in the image of God and with the ability to regain his former heights.
All human beings are precious, for they contain the image of God. Man is therefore obligated to honor his fellow man and shower him with kindness for by doing so he is honoring God. He must be careful not to embarrass or abuse another person, for by so doing he is slighting God.
When you realize that you are unique, loved and precious -you can't feel empty. The whole world was created for your benefit and joy! Celebrate life, share goodness with others, perform random acts of loving kindness. Visit your local hospital, or a nursing home and bring some cheer to the sick and despondent. Reestablish old friendships. Enjoy a walk in the park. Fill yourself with good deeds, join a class on spirituality and surround yourself with positive, upbeat people and you'll feel filled.
