Wedding questions, regarding bridesmaids/flowergirls etc...?
ok, I got engaged on Thurs, we are planning on getting married sometime next year. Having only been to one wedding since being a 'grown up' i've not much experience..
My question -
What are the differences between Bridesmaids and Flowergirls? And Ushers and Page boys?
Thank you!

Well, your bridesmaids are there (in my opinion) to help you plan the wedding. They will help you pick out your dress, do your favors, invitations, etc. They are girls that are close to the bride and/or the groom. Such as sisters, cousins, friends, aunts.. Anyone really that is close to the couple. Flower girls come before the bride in the procession and toss the flower petals. You can have them more involved if you wish. You don't want them any older than 8 or 9 but they can be as young as 1 or 2 (with an adult with them). They don't generally do a lot but they are not "useless". In my opinion, they are a very important part of the wedding as they lead the bride down the aisle. It's kind of a way of announcing "here comes the bride".
Ushers/Groomsman are generally brothers, friends, cousins, etc of the groom and/or bride. They plan the parties for the groom. They help with the wedding plans if they want too. Our best man was also our driver after the wedding and our D.J. Him and his wife also helped decorate and do wedding stuff. So did one of our other groomsmen (they other 2 lived farther away). Page boys or ring bearers carry the ring pillows and walk before the flower girls. It is a symbolic thing. Check out the website below, it explains better. They should be no older than 8 or 9 but just the same as the flower girls they can be as young as you want. Just remember that you never know how the younger ones will act so be prepared for it.
Candle Lighters - These are usually used at church weddings and usually the ushers do it (at least every wedding I've been to) but they can be anyone you want. They just light the candles at the front of the church before any of the other bridal party enter.
Hope this has helped! Good luck and congrats on the recent engagement!

Flower girls are young (like under 8). They play no real part in the wedding. Bridesmaids are your friends, your sisters, your cousins, etc. They help with wedding plans (if you want), throw your bridal shower and bachelorette party, go dress shopping with you.
Ushers/groomsmen are your groom's nearest and dearest. They'll stand at the altar while you get married (like the bridesmaids will) and will throw your groom his bachelor party. Page boys are usually called ring bearers where I'm from and they're just as useless as flower girls. They're in the same age range as flower girls. They'll walk up the aisle holding the rings on a pillow and then disappear.
I'm not some kid-hater, it's just that kids that young can't play a major role at a wedding (unless they're really close to the couple).
