With high efficiency windows, in winter, with direct sunlight, is it better with blinds up or down?

During the day we get tons of sunlight but I'm not sure if we're actually gaining any heat or if we're loosing it because we don't have the blinds down to act as an extra barrier?

Unfortunately I don't recall what type of windows but I do know that I can feel the warmth of the sun.

It depends on what kind of windows you have. Some are designed to let in sunshine and then trap the resulting heat so it can't go back out through the window. Others are designed to keep the sunlight out all together.
