Plumbers: Can I build a shower pan starting by putting the membrane on the floor then pour concrete?
I am rebuilding a shower and the original shower did not have a sloped floor under the membrane. Should I lay one or can I skip it?

I suppose you can, but that's not how it's usually done.
You lay a layer of mortar, put the membrane in then lay a sloped layer of mortar on top of that, then your tile.
There is a special drain that you use to tie the membrane into.
There is a lot more to pouring a shower pan than this.

Concrete absorbs water so unless you want to have water damage to your floor. you need to have a membrane. and make sure that it to your state county and city laws.

Lay the membrane and use the grout form the slope when you tile.
