I got my tooth filled on monday, it's friday. How long should it hurt?

I had a big cavity filled on Monday. Dentist said it might still be sore...Well I didn't feel much the first night but the next day it did hurt when I bit on something. I ate pretty carefully for the rest of the week but I did eat on that side of my mouth. ..Yesterday in the evening it started to hurt! I had to take an advil.. and I was careful with it again today but this evening it is hurting again. Feels like a tooth when you have sensitivity and cold has been put on it..but it's not dissapating and I'm taking my second advil today. Do you think it should still hurt? Maybe I chewed on it too soon and it will be sensitive for a few more days? I have read that it could be up to 2 weeks hurting and some people say no it should not hurt. .I would call the dentist but they are not open till monday. Anyone know???
Thanks!

The tooth probably got traumatized when you bit down hard on it. Since it was a deep cavity, the nerve may be damaged or injured and a root canal needed. But before jumping the gun, try not eating anything on that side for several days. If the pain slowly goes away, then the nerve is healing and you may have lucked out. But if the pain remains the same or gets worse, then a root canal is needed and you need to call your dentist ASAP. As long as the tooth feels better when you keep all pressure off of it, that is a good sign. Another possibility is that the filling on the tooth is high (too much there) and need to be ground off. A high filling will cause pain and you need to have it checked to rule that out.

Yes, it may take another week.
    Just be careful..continue eating carefully.
Sometimes it takes a while to readjust from the numbing needles and the actual tooth work.
I would make a mental note of how it feels into next week.
If by Tuesday or Wednesday it feels even better than today....then you will KNOW that's all it was.

yeah, big fillings do hurt for some time. It's even normal for t to take up to a month to calm down.BUT if it doesn't feel better a hair each day and if it gets worse, you have to go back to your dentist.

It can hurt for a couple weeks. If it gets worse go back to the dentist, if it was a big filling the dentist could have exposed the pulp and you could need a root canal. I would give it another week unless it is unbearable.

This doesn't sound right to me, I just finished a dental course. It shouldn't be this long, you might have bitten down wrong on it to make it sore but really the only way that would happen is if they didnt make the filing low enough, as in it's higher then your other teeth and your teeth are hitting the filing which isn't supposed to happen, so you prob. need it checked out. I had 2 filings and never had a problem at all from right when she was done, no soreness or problems. But that's no the case for some people. A small possibility that the filing fell out, you might need a sealant on that tooth, goes over the tooth, it protects the tooth and keeps something happening to the filing or further damage done to the tooth. As long as your pain is controllable with over the counter medicine, and there's not accessive swelling, or bleeding; you should be okay to wait until Monday. If anything changes, pains getting worse, swelling, etc. You need to call the emergency line because that's an indication something really wrong and he needs to know about that. But as long as your just sore and advil is taking care of it you should be good to wait until Monday. But definitely call if things change and if not, call first thing Monday; he'll prob. want to look and see what's going on. Good luck
