Mostly the benefits are psychological. It is calming health-promoting to have plants in your house - as well as pretty. They also add oxygen to the air during the day, and can help filter the air. (The effects of the filtering are slight - if you smoke, plants will in no way change the nature of the air in your house)

It makes you happy - IF you happen to like pot plants, that is.

Sheer beauty watching them grow and change. Some plants do promote some health benefits for cleaning the air, can't remember the exact ones you would have to google that. They make a room come alive instead of stagnant. Some plants that need very little care, but do not flower, philodendron, pothos, most ivys, spider, snake. Flowering plants, Christmas cactus, begonia, cyclamen; begonia and cyclamen flower off and on all year.

Oh yes, plants are calming for sure. It brings you a happy little boost to have something green in your home over the cold winter.

I saw you are planting outside on new land as well. So having some plants you are starting in the house over the winter will get you started to move them outside into your landscape in the spring. Enjoy growing from seed in the house, or cuttings... then when they are good and strong in the spring, condition them to the sun slowly and move them out into the landscape. Saves you money when buying the same plants ready to go from a nursery.
