Hello.

I got the top of my left ear pierced (not the side i usually sleep on).

It is so quick you hardly every have time to notice whether it hurts or not.

Once you go outside it can sting a bit(especially if cold out).

Yes it will be a bit sensitive and sore if you put pressure on it eg sleeping on it.
Have it in whichever ear you like but just keep the sleeping in mind - ideally its easier on the opposite side to which you sleep.

It only hurts with pressure for about 2 weeks and remember to clean it twice every day to avoid infection - your piercer should give you stuff or tell you what to use.

I hope this has helped and i hope you love your new piercing as much as i love mine!

I had my cartilage pierced during the summer, and it didn't hurt too bad. Definitely more than if you just got your ears pierced, but its not enough that you will cry or something. I would definitely suggest that you get it on the side you don't sleep on because it does hurt when you put pressure on it for a while after. My advice is to remember to clean it everyday because mine became infected and hurt even more.

    hey!!
i got my cartilage pierced this summer!! It didn't hurt AT ALL. (except when there was pressure put on it later on)

and yes, it would be better to put it on the side you don't sleep on.
    it's what I did :)

(it still hurts a bit when i put pressure on it... but not enough to make me regret it!!

It really depends on your pain tolerance and how much cartilage/thickness of the area is you're getting pierced at. Some people will tell you that it hurt so bad, they cried, and other will tell you that it didn't hurt and all they heard when the needle went through was a slight crunch. The most painful part usually is afterwards when it aches. You gotta expect something when you're jamming a needle through.

And yes, it's always best not to sleep on a fresh piercing, especially one that is cartilage. Cartilage will usually ache for a good while, and sleeping on it will only irritate it and cause some extra ache, although you can't really stop a mid-sleep roll onto it. Also, be sure to wash or change your pillow case often, as it will collect the germs and the bacteria from your skin and hair, and you don't want that to collect in your piercing and cause an infection.

Lastly, if you get it pierced, get it done with a needle. If you take the time to do some research, you learn all about how piercing guns crush/shatter surrounding tissue, longer healing period, are more likely for infection... the list goes on. Including that people I know that have had both done will say that the gun hurt worse.
