New furnace won't stay running.?

Question

Had a new Payne 80% efficiency furnace installed 5 days ago Worked fine for 3 hours. House dropped 7 degrees below set temp. Finally at 10:30 kicked on blew cold for 30 seconds, shut off, came on 1.5 minutes later and blew warm for about 4 minutes, then blew cold for about 5 then shut off. Did not run long enough to bring temp up to where it should be. Service came out next day, reset furnace, checked thermostat, put cheaper thin filter in, opened up all our vents ran for 3 cycles ok and then back to the same problem. Now it comes on willy nilly but only for the 30 sec, 4 minute, 5 minute thing so house never warms up. He is supposed to be back today but needless to say this is getting old and cold real fast.

New furnaces have proving devices for combustion air, ignition, and flame. It's obviously trying to start, but one of the safety devices is cutting it off. It sounds like it's going off on a high temperature safety, but it's hard to say.

If your service guy cannot figure out a furnace that his company was paid to install, then they suck. They can be held liable for any type of space heaters, fuel and/or electrical consumption, blankets, fire wood, hotel bills, missed work, etc……..

After the 3rd guy came out and just left the answer was that the gas flow was too high and there was too much blow back as our chimney cover was too small. All fixed and working well. I guess three times was the charm. Thanks for all your suggestions and answers!

you can only burn so many bodies in one furnace before it starts to have problems...

if its new it has a warrenty call the people who put it in

Sounds to me like there is a problem with the power supplying the furnace.
When power is off to the furnace nothing runs but when power is restored and there is a call for heat the blower only will come on for a few minutes then it will shut down and start the heating sequence.
Stay with the installer because they are responsible for the first year labor warranty. Anyone else will charge for there time.
They are just missing the problem either because it's not doing it at the time they are there or they are inexperienced.
Tell them to send another tech.
Since it is new it's probably a weak connection.

It might be your thoumocoupling that needs to be replaced. Check with your local hardware store such as Ace, they have great customer service than those big chain stores.

just so you know, your furnace doesnt have a thermocouple, so dont run to the hardware store

Have them check the power supply.
If a limit tripped or safety then it would run the blower continuously then after it reset start the cycle over.
