Can I start gaining bartending experience before I'm 21?

I've always wanted to get a bartending part time job ever since I saw Coyote Ugly. Call it a little girls strange fantasy and laugh all you want, but i'm wondering if I start a side career in bartending even though i'm not 21. And how can I?

Start by getting books, reading on line, studying the ingredients of drinks, etc. I have seen people get into bar-tending schools because they seen a movie like Cocktail or Coyote Ugly, which is fine, but some of these people didn't know a lime from a lemon or what "on the rocks" meant.

Then set up a mock bar and have your parents or whoever, order drinks. Its fun and good training.

Do yourself a favor and get a step ahead of your class. Learn as much as you can before entering.

Your state Liquor Commission should be able to tell you the specifics for your state.

I bet you cannot handle open bottles before 21.

And doing it illegally is probably not a good career move :)
