What does this mean? And what is a rising sign?

That is my birthday (Jan 14th, 1983), but I don't know what time I was born. How much of an effect does not knowing the time have on me? Also, how do I know what my rising sign is? It says stuff about mercury and moon, but nothing about a rising sign, which I hear alot about on this website.

Can someone please explain this to me without just pasting another link? I will chose Best A.

Well when you give the link and asks what it means, it doesn't show your birth chart so I cant tell you about that. However the ascendant is the zodiac sign that is on the horizon at the time of your birth. It represents the outermost layer of you and your approach, to a certain extent, on life. It mostly represents how you come off to others and to some extent, your direction in life. It is the "mask" that we wear while out in the world. The surface most layer. The part people first see when they meet you. You now how people say well she comes of forceful and bold, or he comes off very noble. This could be their ascendant, possibly aries and leo in those cases respectively.

You do have to know your birth time in order to find out your ascendant and your place of birth. Try to get your birth certificate for this.

The birth chart is like a snapshot of the sky at the time of your birth. Its believed that when you're born you're like...imprinted..with the energy of those planets and their relationships to one another through whatever signs and houses they are in. Then, throughout you're life, the movement of the planets are supposed to effect you based upon the way they were at the time of your birth. You are thought to carry the energies and personify the energy of what is in your birth chart. That is how the belief goes.
Also, astrology was created and used for people to help them guide their lives, never to totally dictate. More than anything your destiny and life is determined by the person/soul behind those energies. You are the master of yourself and our journey. The planets are said to influence it but you steer it. So if you do read this stuff take it with a grain of salt and remember that they only influence you. You still have a choice.(Just don't make a wrong one just to not do something that's said in your horoscope). Just always trust yourself and listen to your core/instincts to know what's right for you, regardless of what astrology says. I don't take this stuff too seriously, its just fun to read from time to time. I don't base my life on it. So if you do decide to use it, remember what I wrote above. Hope this helps!

Your rising sign is essentially your personality and how you present yourself to people. If you don't know it, then you also won't know other specifics in your chart, like which houses the planets are placed in. In order to find out your rising sign, you need to know what time you were born as well as the place you were born. These two factors are extremely significant. Maybe ask one of your parents what time you were born or getting a copy of your birth certificate would help you figure out your rising.

Different people have different ways of perceiving you in different amounts. The Ascendant is sort of a way that people see you and the way you take on or engage in your immediate surroundings. It's more like an undertone, while people would be able to guess your sun sign more easily. Also with your time of birth you'll know your Medium Coeli, aka MC, which is how society as a whole perceives you.

If you want to know your rising sign you have GOT to have your time of birth.

If you didn't know your time of birth this is unlikely, but some sites refer to your rising sign as "Asc node". And some websites don't even say what their rising sign is.

But yeah, your time of birth is needed to find out your rising sign or there's not much point in explaining what it is.
