Acne on the back and shoulders?
My daughter, age 19 has had acne on her back and shoulders. What can be done to prevent it? She showers daily, and keeps herself clean, so, what would be the cause?

The cause of your 19-year-old daughter's acne is being 19 years old. It's best to take her to a dermatologist. He/she may prescribe clindamycin, a GREAT topical jel. Another possibility is for her to take prescription pills (can't remember the name, but a doctor will know). My experience it that the pills will help the most, but both are better. If you can't see a dermatologist, ask a regular doctor if he/she will prescribe these meds.
One over-the-counter medication that works well is Neutrogena acne wash. There's also an over the counter product just for back acne, don't know the name, but look for it.
Tell your daughter to try not to pick her blemishes- it can scar and even pit her back. Also, make sure she knows it's probably related to hormones and not to being dirty.

Had acne myself- a trip to the dermatologist cleared it all up. Now, noone knows it was ever a problem.

I occasionally get acne on my back and shoulders, and i just use either an exfoliating scrub and an acne treatment that I would use on my face. I also take Complex. which is a vitamin used to support healthy skin. It works really well for me.

For acne: After the meal of the day containing the most fats or oils, take beta carotene, vitamin C, and natural vitamin E. The best vitamin E is d-alpha tocopheryl acetate. The label should say natural; dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate is synthetic. Mixed tocopheryls aren't as good.
