Curious to hear from vegetarians?

I would love to be a vegetarian. Although I know that God created fish and other types of animals to be eaten, food should be treated as fuel and these days, food is a business. Animals are being raised to die and I hate that even though I'm just one person, I'm still supporting it by eating meat. I haven't had any sort of red meat or beef or pork in a looooong time because I simply don't enjoy the taste, but I still eat things like fish, chicken, and turkey on a regular basis. Even though I would like to be a vegetarian, I like the taste of chicken and fish too much and the health benefits. What do vegetarians do when they crave meat? I don't want to be a vegetarian if i'm going to secretly be thinking about a chicken sandwich! haha

Today is the first day I've actully craved meat, and the only reason of that is because it's nearly thanksgiving. This will be my first vegetarian thanksgiving, so I'm very excited. =]

I've missed out on some of my favorite foods because of marshmallows and such being used, but I'm trying to substitute everything with stuff I enjoy now.

I'm going to be having a vegetarian lasagna, fruit smoothie, rolls, cottage cheese, apple sauce and whatever else looks good that other people bring in.

I will NOT eat the turkey.. no matter how good it smells. :/ It honestly just comes down to will power. Do you have it? ^^

i started when i was pretty little (earlier than third grade, i cant really remember) and I'm 19 now. i pretty much have forgotten what it tastes like so i dont crave it. I'm sure other people eventually get over it or just ignore it though.
thats kind of like a fat person saying "i dont want to diet if im secretly going to be thinking about cake." its probably going to happen but you have to resist it if you really want to be vegetarian.

After a while you don't crave it. I actually feel physically ill from eating meat because the idea disgusts me so much. If you do have to eat meat just cut down on the amount because overall eating meat is wasteful.

The best substitute and answer to your craving is tofu or gluten!
You could cook it the same way you would cook your chicken and it would practiceally taste more or less the same.
My dad is lacto vegetarian..that's why I know..

    Hope this helps..

Well I am a vegetarian and if you ever have a craving for meat you can buy meat substitutes, they are really good! Boca makes meatless products, as well as Morningstar. For instance , I had a Boca Burger (it's meatless) for dinner with some sweet potato fries. They also make "fake chicken" sandwiches and fake chicken strips. These "fake" meat products are usually made out of soy and are actually very healthy.
Honestly, I don't crave meat a lot, but when I do, there is a meatless substitution you can find for pretty much any meat.
Like I said look up Boca Burgers and Morningstar products, you can find meatless chicken !

meat does taste pretty damn good so its ok to crave it especially if you're new to being vegetarian. its only natural. the point is that animals are being tortured to satisfy this craving ...and they don't have to be. the question is: support torture and eat this chicken sandwich or eat lentil soup or a bunch of other things and have dignity?

I don't really get cravings for meat anymore, but if do get cravings I eat a sandwich with some Yves or Tofurky deli slices on it.

Seriously, you'll never notice the difference and it will satisfy your cravings.

The good news is that there is tons of Biblical support of vegetarianism! Here's a link for you. Read all about it. http://www.thenazareneway.com/biblical_%…

You'll especially be interested in the parts from early in Genesis. As you know, the Bible says that God created the animals before he created Man. Since Man was an afterthought, created because God was still lonely, it's unlikely that he populated the planet with animals for Man to eat before Man was even there. Furthermore, Genesis 1:29 indicates that originally, God's plan was for people to be vegetarians. This link also discusses the likelihood that heaven if a vegetarian place, so starting now is just preparing yourself for the future!

That being said, being vegetarian isn't about not missing certain foods, it's about being willing to make a sacrifice for your beliefs. Understand that it will be a challenge and one that can only be overcome with willpower. You must decide what is important for you: the pleasure of eating the flesh of animals or your desire to not support their slaughter/mistreatment. Nobody on here can help you with that any more than we could help you get up at 5 a.m. to go for a run every morning. You need to identify your motivations and remember them.

Also, knock it off with the "health benefits." It's an excuse and you know it. Don't keep telling yourself that you have to eat meat to get certain nutrients or you are reinforcing a habit that you seem to want to give up. If you keep telling yourself why you can't, you're really being your own worst enemy. Stop. Do a little bit of research on the specific nutrients you are concerned about and you'll easily find vegetarian (and even vegan) sources of them. Focus on how you can. If you honestly want to stop eating animals, it's time to figure out how you're going to do it.

    Good luck!

I have meat cravings all the time.
I was told that a Iron tablet would help with that and ,surprise it dose!
I used to smoke cigs. I wanted to quit ,so I "made the choice"
It was hard to overcome, but I did and Im a better person for it.
