I would recommend signing up for a Photobucket.com account and editing your photos there.
They have a "zit zapper", which actually just blurs the image so it appears gone. The editing is actually quite cheap, but you can make it work to your benefit. For example, i zoom in on my image closely and minimize the tool.
Also, i would recommend just playing with the contrast or try black/white and sepia.
So your picture is not so "blah" maybe try wearing a brighter shirt color or possibly darker.
If that editor doesn't work well for you then sign up for a Flickr.com account and use their editor. They have a tool that can really make your eyes "pop" or sparkle.
Oh and, both sites are easy to sign up for.
If you want to have the main focus on your eyes, have a light behind the camera and a little above your eye level. Also, something fun I like to do is go to--
http://www.jnjvision.com/imakeover/. You can place color contacts on your eyes. :]
Pic #1-- 8/10 [Love your hair--The curly waves, i like how the side view of your eye shows off the length of your lashes]
Pic #2-- 7/10 [Your facial expression is cute, but the photo its self is sort of just blah.]
Pic #3--10/10 [ I love your pose & your facial expression, the bright wall behind you and the contrast look very well]
