How can one make seasonal flowers, like when WalMart has colorful summer/brownish fall ones?
I think I heard once that food dye added to their water would work or the summer look, but I have no idea about the fall ones.

Well actually some flowers are natually certain colors. Like mums can go from pink, yellow, orange to brownish. its in their genes. Like the reason some people have blue eyes, and some brown.
Now during some holiday and sometimes when endividuals need a certain color for special occasions. (Like weddings). There are dye's that certain flowers can drink to change their colors, (like the carnation). Then there are florist spray paints, that are made to change or just tip the ends of floral petals without burning them.
Hope this helps. Now you know how they get those green irish carnations for St. paddys day.

Try food dye (especially works with tulips, roses and carnations), spray paint like at the florist or try changing the soil composition if they are in your garden (I know that you can change the color of hydrangeas this way).
Here's a website which has some info on changing flower colors
