Can you remove stains from clothes using fabric softener only?

My friend thinks that you can remove stains from clothes using just fabric softener IF the washing machine is on a high enough temperature. Is he an idiot?

You cannot use fabric softener to remove stains. It simply won't work. Fabric softeners work by depositing lubricating chemicals on the fabric that make it feel softer, reduce static cling, and impart a fresh fragrance.

Compare it to using hair conditioner to wash your hair with. It simply doesn't work.

No fabric softener does just that softens fabric it does not clean and if that's all he uses then that's kinda gross that means his clothes are still dirty eww.
