Can you believe the price of propane?
Just filled my 500 gallon tank and it cost me nearly $1000! Why? 5 years ago I could fill it for under $500.

Propane is a petroleum product. It's price will increase/decrease every time oil prices go up or down. I am paying $12 for my grill tank and it used to be $8.

Propane is a distillate/cracked fraction from crude oil and has to be actually made - that is it does not occur as a raw material such as Natural Gas. Accordingly it is based on the price of crude. Further, it is a relatively clean fuel and a feedstock for industrial production and also as an enriching agent for utility-delivered natural gas. Once upon a time propane was almost a waste-fraction from petroleum and so was very cheap. Industry adapted to it and it is no longer plentiful relative to demand.
Accordingly, the price is quite volatile. Do not expect it to go down.
