I have always fancied myself as gardener but now my wife wants me to plant bulbs. Never planted bulbs before.?

Question

Do I have to plant them in the fall, like now, or can they be planted in the spring. Tulips etc...etc.

Bulbs are too easy, plant them now straight in the ground for best results. But even if you leave them ridiculously late, or plant them upside down, or don't water them, or plant bulbs that have been squashed, or bulbs that look dried out, ......they'll still come up.
Plant a load of daffy's, don't tell your wife how easy it was, sit back and wait for her to be impressed...hehee

There is a season for everything. You could plant them in pots, thats nice.

Bulbs are almost fool proof. Just find out how deep to plant them in your area so they don't freeze. A little fertilizer, keep the weeds down and some water and you'll be her hero.

Bulbs must have a cold period of 35– 48 degrees F for a minimum of 12–13 weeks and thus should be planted in the fall or you can always force the bulbs to bloom in pots.
