Trying to drink less, needing to find friends that accept that..?

I recently got a DUI in May of this year. It has taken me since then to realize that I have a drinking problem...

After I have about 6 beers I loose control and can't moderate how much I drink. I get in a bad mood if somebody tells me to stop drinking. I will literally drink so much that i can't stand on my own 2 feet and still want more.

All of my friends like to drink in EXCESS every day of the week... they drink all the beer then move on to hard liquor...

I can't be around them anymore, nothing against them as functioning human beings... But more so I can't trust myself around them.

where can I find new friends that still like to drink in moderation, but aren't alcoholics?!

You know I think you are headed in the right direction. For me I found that maybe I should just take a breather from drinking and sort things out. Now, a couple years later ( don't know exactly how long as I have tried to not dwell on it) I still haven't had a drink and because I have tried not to dwell on it, drinking is not that important. So you can take a little breather and not stress. Who knows it may save you. Booze, anger and cars really don't mix.
Good Luck!! Mark

Take a vacation from you current friends- a permanent vacation

It is possible that you won't be able to drink in moderation.

Alcoholics pretty much have to avoid the stuff all together.

The current alcohol culture in the country is destroying a whole generation.

It is also destroying innocent people who don't drink.

My kind, sweet, gentle, beautiful 24 year old grand daughter was killed by a drunk driver.

I would look for friends who don't drink at all.

You can have fun without alcohol!

wow, well it is a good thing that you have admited to yourself that you have a problem and are going to do something about it. it sounds like your buddies also have drinking problems. Once someone is out of there early 20's and still drinking like an a*shole all the time....they most likely have a problem. go to an AA meeting and meet some new friends, go online to find groups of people in your area who can relate to your problem, hang out with them.

Alright I may not be able to help you much. My dad was/still is an alcoholic. It's rough cause I'm only 14. Finding new friends isn't really like a "line up" I guess you could say. You just can't pick them as you meet them. Hang around with some family (brothers & sisters) that have friends maybe they'll have some friends. That is if your brothers and sisters are of the same age as you. Or do some activities and meet new people. I don't your age so.. It's really about what you like to do. So if you like to watch basketball, go to a game chances are you'll find some guys or gals to chill with that live close to you. It's takes time dude. Hope this helps a bit at least.

I understand your situation. I don't have a DUI on my record, but have many friends who drink too much. Fortunately most of them stick to beer, but still .. well good luck in your "search" and keep me posted.

Better yet, instead of running from your problem, learn to fight it and not drink yourself hick drunk every night. If you got serious with your friends you could probably get them to support it (you make it sounds like they don't support the idea).
