I have a Hand-Me-Down Dress that needs altered?
My sister gave me her senior prom dress. it is beautiful, but it is too small. She is a 12 and I'm a 16. Can a Dress like This:

Be altered somewhat easily, or would buying another dress be better? It was a $350 Dress And It would be a waste only to wear it once.
Also, Would you give me an estimate on what it might cost?

Yes it is a beautiful dress. However the style would be very difficult to alter as the top is so fitted, there does not seem to be any spare material. I can't see the back, the only suggestion I have there is, alter the back so that instead of a zipper, there would be a lace-up back. This would show more flesh. Also your boobs might pop out of the top anyway. Yes prom dresses are a huge waste of money. My daughter graduated a few years ago. Her dress needed minor alterations and it was $30. Your sister would be better just to sell the dress to someone nearer her size.

- Thanks for the help. The back is a zipper..And I have been trying to avoid a Lace up back for the fact that I don't want to show too much skin.

You'd be best just taking it to some dressmakers and asking them. They can look at the design properly and tell you if they can do anything--and give you an estimate on cost.
