Is it worth the wait?

I'll try to sum this up:

I like one of my friends. I've liked her for quite some time now, but she has liked me much, much longer. Recently, we stopped talking for a month or two due to some issues that I have to clear up with myself and take some time to think...well, during that time, she must have gotten tired of waiting or just gave into an opportunity for comfort, but now she has a boyfriend. They've been together for 3 months or so, and she's already afraid to leave him. Afraid that she'll "miss him too much." Now, what I'm wondering is this: should I wait? Is it worth it? She claims that she still likes me, and now that she knows my true feelings for her, she's confused, shocked and unsure what to do with the relationship with the other guy. It's a "long-distance" relationship. We, however, go to the same school, live in the same "city," etc...

So, do you think it would be worth the wait? The girl claims to be "in love" with me, and she really, REALLY cares for me and likes me a lot based on the past... :-/

Should I be patient, should I wait? Any suggestions or advice would be helpful; maybe some of you have had a similar experience...

Additional Details

some more details: she tells me that she likes me more than him, she thinks I'm "better than him," but she's just afraid that she'll miss him too much. I'm not sure what to think about this... oh, by the way, *this guy is her first boyfriend.*

Screw waiting, move in for the kill. If she likes you like you say she does, you just need to put in a little work to get her to be with you. It sucks to be the other guy, but you gotta look out for your own interests rather than just sit around and wait for things to happen. Long distance relationships are usually a joke anyways.

Life is too short to wait around and wonder, especially as she grows closer to this other guy. Plus, she's only been with him for a little bit so it's not like you're gonna tear apart his world (if you even care).
