Cover your rent, your utilities and your food, in that order. The rest is leisure money, buy I advise save 1/3 in your account for something. I know it's scary, but you'll grow to like your new home! I moved out when I was 18, I was so independent. Um-pick up an application form or talk w/ the landlord/lady.

First get a job. No place will rent to you if you don't have a source of income.

Next, find your price range and location. Be realistic. Consider a roommate to lower the costs if you have to. When you're ready, tour apartments and then apply for the ONE you want. You may need your parents to cosign if you are under 20 years.

Third, consider what you need to purchase second hand to fill your apartment. In the spring you'll find deals on furniture, silverware and flatware. Check out estate sales if you can. Do NOT buy new at this stage.
