What is so wrong with being shy?

My mother constantly bothers me about how shy I am, and it's really starting to annoy me. I have friends, not many, but enough for me, and I'm really uncomfortable talking to people. But, she tries to force me to talk with others and says I need to get over my shyness. I can talk to people that I'm not familiar with when it's necessary, but I just dislike doing it. What's so wrong with that?

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with being shy! The youngest of my 3brothers happens to be COMPELETLY opposite of the rest of his siblings. I'm am the most outgoing and he is extremely shy. I have him tag along with me so that he can feel more comfortable with being with an open person. I do not enforce him to break out of his shell, but I'll offer for him to do something out of his comfort zone. Most likely he says no, but I still ask making sure not to pressure him.

Sorry to diss your mother, but tell her that 'everyone is different and if she continues to nag you that you'll be shy forever!' just tell her to cut you some slack and tell her that everyone blossoms at different times. She's not you and vice versa.

Don't worry about it man... try to take a harsh statement and make it into a funny one...

nothing at all.
your mother needs to stop reinforcing your shyness.that is why you are shy.
don't listen to her poor negative comments.
you are not shy, just selective to who you want to talk with

Sorry but I just find shy people annoying, its like talk for gods sake! Shes right you do need to get over your shyness. I used to be shy, like I wanted to say something to someone but I didn't bcos I was shy, so I decided to just say it, if you start doing this you will find you start getting more confident :) x
