Not ANOTHER Turkey question?!?!? (electric vs gas oven)?
I've always prided myself on making perfect Thanksgiving turkey but this is the first year I'm living in a place with an electric oven rather than gas. Will the fact that the oven is electric affect the cooking time, browning, or other areas of proper bird cooking?
Thanks for your answers!

As long as your oven is accurate, you shouldn't have any problems. You can use an oven thermometer to check and make sure that the temperature you set it to is really the temperature it is inside. Place the thermometer right where the turkey will be during the preheat, and when you put the turkey in, just hang the thermometer on the rack. Most grocery stores sell thermometers for less than $10, if you don't have one.

No problem .Both electric and gas ovens temperature settings bake the same. The only difference would be if the oven is convectionand it would be faster.

its been my experience that it does make a big difference...i have lived in places with electric and hated it...things didn't heat the way i wanted and dishes would come out very different for a while i had to get used to it..you just make sure you check your bird every now and then and look at its appearance...

I have used both gas and electric and though I prefer the gas - the electric takes a little more time in cooking your bird. If the heating elements in your oven are in good shape, you should not have to worry about browning and properly cooking your bird at all - it may take just a tad bit longer to cook - oh and baste your bird a little more frequently to ensure a moist bird! Hope this helps!!

Hope you have a back-up system...where I live everyone has gas because we get a lot of power failures! Love gas.

Years of experience with gas and very little with electric ovens.
