Resolved Question

Show me another »

If you could help me along with this problem, that would be very nice...?

I don't want to gain weight and I know that eating too little will do just that, but I do not feel comfortable eating more than 800 calories a day. I can't. I always feel fat when I do, and it freaks me out. So should I exercise more? Try to up my intake of food slightly? I might go for 900 calories a day, but I draw the line at 1000. I hate going to bed knowing I ate that much and it's all in my tummy, rolling around, making me fatter, even though it's not. So if you could give me a hand, that would be very much appreciated.

By the way, I am not underweight. I am normalish, maybe starting to begin to commence bordering underweight. Underweight for me would be 104 or 105, and I weigh 110. So, I'm five or six pounds in the clear. Just if you need to know.

It may ease you to know you burn hundreds of calories in your sleep! But as far as eating more, DO NOT eat under 800 calories, it will make you start gaining weight, just like you said. After all, it is not the calories that make you gain weight so much, but more of the FATS, so focus more on reducing fat intake and slowly increase calorie intake.I understand you won't eat more than 1,000 so eat more veggies and fruit, they contain almost no fat. If you feel comfortable, take part in a *little* body building every other OTHER day to gain more muscle. More muscle=more fat and calories burned when doing nothing.

Calories is a big issue for weight watchers. Forming healthy eating habits is one great help to counting calories intake. www.myui.com/nk has healthy supplements that has fewer calories but has balanced nutrients recommended for daily intake.

I don't quite understand what you are trying to ask. Do you want to lose weight or gain weight? I don't understand.
Honestly, I really don't think yahoo answers is your best option for this problem. You really should consult a doctor, a psychologist, or a dietitican. You don't appear to have a healthy mindset regarding food and your weight. This can lead to serious disorders (not just eating disorder but body function in general as well). You need to intake more calories. This doesn't mean you should eat bad food, you can have healthy food and still increase your caloric intake. By intaking 800 or even 1000 calories you are restricting essential nutrients and minerals into your body. Not to mention you probably aren't getting enough protein, carbohydrates, and unsaturated fats (like omega 3 which is important for you brain). If you aren't intaking complete proteins, your body doesn't make all the proteins that you need. This can cause serious problems.

Your total caloric need is based on 3 main factors:
    1) Basal caloric need: This is just the energy needed to keep your body functioning (i.e. metabolic processes). This is needed even as you sit reading this. A very approximate calculation for women is lbs x 10. Therefore, your basal caloric need is approximately 1100. So, you aren't even intaking enough calories for you body to function properly!!
    2) Physical Activity: If you are active, you need to intake more calories so that you have enough energy to actually do the activities.
    3) Thermogenesis: This is the caloric cost of processing food. It can be calculated as ~10% of your basal + physical activity calories.

Be healthy. Eat well and exercise. Don't fixate on "feeling fat" or attempting to stay at the borderline of "healthy" and "underweight". Try educating yourself in nutrition by reading books from reliable sources (i.e. registered dietitians) or talking to dietitians and doctors so that you can be healthy and stay healthy

It is not just the calories you should worry about. If you change when you eat, you will burn more calories and can eat more without exercising. Make sure you eat a good breakfast, including protein. This will get your metabolism going. Then spread the food out during the day. Don't count calories. Eat what you think is OK. A meal should have a piece of meat the size of the palm of your hand. Pasta or potatoes (carbs) the size of your fist. Then veggies or fruit the size of two fists. This will give you a good balanced diet. No weight gain. Any you will feel better. Have a healthy snack in between meals to keep the metabolism going, a few nuts, a piece of fruit, yogurt, or a granola bar (or 1/2 of one)
