What does the "handwash" setting on my washing machine mean?

i have a blanket that was given to me as a gift. it's really soft and the tag says "dry clean only". well i took it the dry cleaners, but i want it to not only be clean, but have a clean scent to it... that clean laundry smell... well me and my friend hand-washed it in the bath tub and then dried it with a dryer sheet to give a nice scent.. that took forever and was really messy, so i was thinking, what if i just washed it in my washing machine on the "handwash" option (cold)?? there's also a setting called "delicates"... i don't know which one to use, or if both options would completely ruin the blanket. i definitely don't want the threads to come out or it to get ruined, but i want it to be clean and smelling good....sooo would the handwash setting be okay??

thanks!!!!

It is a very gentle cycle with minimum agitation. Use it on cool or cold water setting. Fluff dry or hang outdoors.
