I just got another cockatiel! I have the two little ladies in separate cages for now, but at the moment they're hanging out on top of the cage and they are completely silent and seem totally indifferent to each other.
Is this normal? Is this a good sign, bad sign? I was expecting a more angry reaction since both are very grouchy hens in general, but they see to be content just hanging out quietly.3 AnswersBirds8 years ago
I've suffered from anxiety my entire life, and it only got severe 3 or 4 years ago. I'm mostly able to get it under control, but the one thing that gets me going out of control is the hypochondria. I can make any little twinge into a deadly illness.
Lately I've been sick, my throat is inflamed... something easily fixed by a quick visit to the doctor. But instead of calling the doctor, I've been brooding and freaking myself out, and in all honesty probably making myself sicker by worrying and not sleeping.
I want to know your coping methods, YA community. I'm not looking for some extra long answer with well0supported evidence from medical studies, I'm looking for personal answers. What makes you or other people you know who suffer from hypochondria feel better when you start to get riled up?2 AnswersMental Health8 years ago
I have a two-year-old female cockatiel who I adopted in March, and I've been considering getting her a pal. Today I was offered a large cage and another female cockatiel for free! But I want to do a little research before comitting.
What's the best way to get two cockatiels used to each other so then can maybe live in the same cage eventually? How do I make them meet each other and still make sure they don't get in a fight?1 AnswerBirds8 years ago
I'm strongly considering getting my septum pierced next week, so like the neurotic freak I am, I've been Googling the risks.
First I had a question about septal hematoma... can this only happen if they pierce the hard cartilage part, or also when they pierce the skin between the cartilage and the end of your nose?
Also what does necrosis come from? Infection only? So does that mean if you keep it really clean and cared for, you can avoid it?
Anything else I should know?
P.S. Don't tell me not to get it because you think it's ugly. I think it's cute and I don't care what people think.2 AnswersOther - Skin & Body8 years ago
We're having lunch and a movie over Skype today :) Here are some of our mutual favorites:
- Anything kinda "indie" (Eternal Sunshine, Moonrise Kingdom, Donnie Dark, etc.)
- Any documentary in which you can learn something neat (usually our favorite topic for that is something political)
- James Bond
- Intelligent sci-fi movies
- Anything to do with time travel
- Pretty much anything thought-provoking
Or just suggest something you really like2 AnswersMovies8 years ago
I'm in college, and one of my teachers went to our school's bookstore and realized not everybody had bought the book necessary for classwork that day. (They only purchase enough for each person enrolled, and there were some left.) She bought all the books and said that if you hadn't bought the book, you now had no choice but to buy it from her, and for 10 cents more than it was in the store. She made about a dollar. (Luckily, I already had the book.)
I know it's not much money, but is there any issue with her doing that?? I feel like that shouldn't be allowed.2 AnswersLaw & Ethics8 years ago
A friend of mine has a younger sister who plays the violin, and her mom asked me to give her violin lessons. I agreed, but I really need to work on my own violin skills before they get from vacation.
I played the violin starting at age 5, I went to music school (college) for 2 years, and then I quit at age 20. It's been almost a year since I've really played. I don't have money for violin lessons, but I would like to start practicing again. I was always the underdog in terms of my playing technique.
What should I work on? (In terms of a piece, I know I have to do scales.) I can't remember everything I played for my last jury... I know one of them was Vivaldi Spring. Also, do you know any good technique books?

I've been seeing stuff on the internet saying you can mix eyeshadow with clear lip gloss to make interestingly colored gloss. I've seen some stuff that says it's okay, and some stuff that says you really shouldn't do it with certain ingredients like aluminum.8 AnswersMakeup9 years ago
My cockatiel does this thing where he sits in his food or water dish and starts chirping weirdly... like it's not his normal shriek or cute little chuckle, it's this soft, raspy, continuous chirp. It looks even goofier because he's way too big to actually fit in his little round bowl, so he kind of has to arch his back and stick out his tail feathers. What does it mean?1 AnswerBirds9 years ago
My boyfriend and I are thinking of going somewhere in early/mid May, but I'm not sure where yet, hence my coming here for suggestions. I'm guessing the trip would be about 3-5 days. Keep in mind we are young college students, so we don't have a ton of money. Also we don't have a car that can drive long distances, so road trips are out.
It'd be nice not to go too far, (we live in Connecticut) but I'm open to suggestions. We're vegans, and he's not old enough to drink. We love food, art, music, the outdoors... in other words, we're typical artsy college students.
Please don't recommend Boston, seeing as he goes to school there, so we've had enough of it for the summer ;)2 AnswersPacking & Preparation9 years ago
I adopted a 2-year-old cockatiel from a friend of mine, and seeing as I only brought him home yesterday, he is still quite distressed. His crest is back, and he screams when I talk to him. I know that it'll take time for him to adjust to the new environment. I'm trying to be patient and not get discouraged.
How can I make him the most comfortable? I want him to get to know me, but I also don't want to push him and make him too freaked out. How can I encourage him to interact with me without overstepping my boundaries? I've been sitting in my room with him all day and eating my meals with him. What can I do to make sure he's happy?3 AnswersBirds9 years ago
I had a dream last night that I had a pet bird, and I woke up DEVASTATINGLY let down that I didn't actually have one, hahah. I've always wanted one, so I'm strongly considering it.
I don't want to get one that's going to cost me more than $100 (not including the cage) initially, and I don't want one that's going to get really big. I also want one who will be friendly and affectionate with me if I take the time to socialize with it.5 AnswersBirds9 years ago
I have Mon-Thurs off next week for my March break. I want to do something adventurous/outdoorsy on my own! I'm 21 and I have a bit of money to spare. I live in Connecticut, and I don't want to go TOO far. Any suggestions?2 AnswersOther - Destinations9 years ago
There's a girl at work who I thought I got along really well with. Whenever we work together, we talk about interesting things, and she has gone so far as to tell me that she thinks I'm interesting and enjoys my company. The feeling was mutual.
At the beginning of last week, we worked together for a couple hours, and she suggested that we do something together outside of work. Of course I was down, so I texted her my availability later that day. She never texted me back, and I didn't think much of it. Next time I saw her, she apologized to me and said it had been a weird week, and of course I said it was totally fine.
On Monday, I was having a really bad day, and when she came in to work, I was a wreck. She offered to go out with me after her shift and talk about it, and I said that would be great. Closing responsibilities are usually done by 8:30, so I texted her around then asking if they were close to being done. She never responded. I texted her around 9 again. No reponse. I called at 9:30... no answer. I was a little bit mad, but I wasn't super pissed at this point.
On Tuesday, I was walking by where we work to go out to eat nearby, and I saw her inside. I tapped on the window to say hello, and she apologized for "being a jerk." I told her it was okay if she didn't want to hang out with me, and she said "yeah, but I should have communicated that." That was what tipped the scale from a little bit pissed to deeply hurt. When you apologize for "being a jerk," that implies that you did something mean on purpose. So is she blowing me off on purpose? That had never been my assumption previous to that statement.
Yesterday, I sent her a text. "I hope I'm not bothering you, but may I ask you a question?" And she said "You're not bothering me, Allison. What's up?" and I said, "Did I do something to upset you? If so, I would like to apologize." No response. I gave her more than 12 hours, and this morning I texted her "Listen, I'm not sure what to say. I've been beating myself up about this all week, so I would appreciate a response." No response.
At this point, I'm really trying to figure out what's going through her head. I'm trying to figure out if I did something wrong. I have only said wonderful things about her, to her face and to everyone else. SHE is always the one to ask me to hang out, so I don't think I'm being overbearing? If she just doesn't want to be friends, then why does she receive me with such excessive positivity, and why does she offer to help me when I'm upset? Does anyone have any ideas??
I'm thinking about going in to where we work today and confronting her face-to-face. What do you guys think about that? Good idea or bad idea? I would like to get some kind of clarification so that work won't be awkward!
Important detail: this girl is 25 years old, and I am 21. I personally think we're too old to engage in this kind of drama, but I would really like some clarification so work won't be awkward.6 AnswersFriends9 years ago
I have 3 days off during my March break. I live in Connecticut. I'm 21. I don't want to go with friends, I need to have some personal experiences and do some soul-searching. I love nature.2 AnswersOther - Destinations9 years ago
I'm currently having discomfort in my throat. It kind of feels like something is stuck there, but I know there isn't because I have no trouble actually swallowing, even though it feels uncomfortable to swallow.
This all started yesterday... I was eating A LOT because I was overtired, and ever since then I've had this weird pain. I think I might have accidentally swallowed some spaghetti whole. Is this acid reflux or heartburn?? I'm also burping a lot.
I'm going to the doctor soon, but how can I relieve it at least temporarily? It's bothering me so much that I'm getting really tense, and tension is just making it worse :(
P.S. I'm a hypochondriac, so don't freak me out by saying any weird, rare diseases that are super serious. I'm an otherwise healthy person, and this doesn't happen on a regular basis.2 AnswersPain & Pain Management9 years ago
I'm looking for a good anime forum or chatroom to join. I'm already on crunchyroll and animelist, but I'm looking for something a little smaller, yet also active so I can really meet and talk to other people who like anime. I'm getting a little tired of just posting messages that no one actually reads.
Thanks :)6 AnswersComics & Animation9 years ago
