  • Help tracing a story... Old man clamps round young man's neck?

I am trying to find out the name of a story. It is a children's story about a young man who wants to cross a river (I think).

On the bank of the river sits an old man who asks the young man if he can help his cross by allowing him to sit on his shoulders. When the old man is lifted onto his shoulders, he clamps his legs tight around the young man's neck and the man is unable to remove him.

The young man seems doomed to remain like this and cannot shift the old man who now seems very strong. After quite some time, eventually the young man gets the old man drunk and he loosens his grip and is able to be removed.

That is all I can remember but hopefully it is enough to go on for someone.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Children's fairytale book...help locating, please?

I have been trying to locate a particular child's fairytale book for quite some time now but with no luck.

It had a blue hardcover (about A4 size) and I cannot remember any specific design or name but it appeared quite old when I purchased it at a jumble sale in the early 90s.

It contained several fairy tales by Grimm, Hans Christian Anderson and others, including 'The 12 Dancing Princesses', 'Goldilocks', 'Blue Beard', 'The Tinder Box' and one about an old man who clamped his crossed legs around a young man's neck as well as many others. The stories contained the original gruesome endings of the fairy tales and what seemed quite rude language for a children's book.

The book also contained a number of coloured plates (illustrations) throughout and from what I remember, I think the book also had some Art Nouveau style writing.

Unfortunately, when I went off to University, my parents sold the book at another jumble sale and I have been unable to track down another as I cant remember it actually having a name!!

Any help would be soooooo much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

  • What are these bugs on my kitten?

I have a 15 week old kitten who has been treated for fleas by the vet (who says he's now clear). Recently I have found other bugs crawling in his fur.

They are definately NOT fleas or ticks.

The bugs are approx 3-5 mm long, a light brown colour and move slowly about the fur. The only way I can describe their appearance is similar to tiny moths (though they cant fly). They dont jump so are quite easy to catch. They dont burrow under the skin. The flea treatment has no effect on them. They are all over my kitten and I cant get rid of them!!! What are they?? Please help!

  • Has anyone got a kitten available in Nottingham/Derby/Lincoln area?

Hi, I am looking for a kiiten (or two) in the above areas. I have looked around local rescue centres but apparantly its not 'kitten season'.

I have just moved to Notts from Scotland to live with my fiance who is in the military but unfortunately he is away a lot and I'm often left on my own so would love a little kitten (or two) to keep me company.

I am willing to travel to collect and willing to pay up to £40 (rescue centres charge 60-80). I promise it will go to a loving home. Thanks for looking x
