  • Quantified Statements?

Determine whether the following statement and it's negation are true:

    ∀x ∈ℝ, ∃y ∈ℝ such that xy=2.

for all x in set of real numbers, there exists y in set of real numbers such that xy=2.

just making sure i'm understanding the symbols right.

not sure where to go from here.

is the question asking if any real number x by static number y would = 2?

  • Computer boot problem / xp install?

I just created and formatted a new partition on my HDD and was installing XP on it, during setup just after it copies all the setup/installation files and reboots. It reboots to the screen with "press any key to boot from CD" however there are a couple of colored characters randomly on the screen and it freezes at this point. Stuck on the screen however the characters still flash. I tried completely deleting the partition and rebooting but it doesn't boot past the POST. i can still access the BIOS.

So i originally had vista on a 320GB HD, i created a new 70gb partition on the HD to install XP on (so i have vista on 230GB, 70GB partition and 20GB of unallocated space. I tried deleting the 70gb partition and it still won't boot. Don't have the Vista installation discs only the XP disc. I've probably done something really silly here but have no idea where to go from here... Also i can't clear the CMOS because opening the case will void the warranty.

have run diagnostic on startup and everything seems to be fine.

    Basically

    http://reinstallwinxp06.hit.bg/How%20to%20format%2...

(get to this stage of the XP install)

    After Reboot

    http://www.netlaunch.net/images/tutorial's/Install...

Get stuck on a screen similar to that EXCEPT there are a few random colored characters scattered across the screen (yellow, purple, green etc.)

  • Beginner learning to play Go?

I've been interested in learning the game, i play chess regularly but go is a completely different game. I've learned the basic rules of the games but once we finish placing the first 10 or so stones, when i'm attacked i try to play out of it but always end up cornered, whenever i try to attack i always end up at a dead end. Does anyone know where i can find some materials for a beginner to learn Go, also is there a program which will let me play the cpu with varying lvls of difficulties/handicaps. The few games i'm talking about i played online straight after learning the rules, i think i was far too eager to play and not ready for any games yet.

  • Operating systems comparison table?

Just wondering if anyone knows of a site where i can find a Table comparing features of the following Operating systems: Mac OS 10.6 , Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista - Ultimate, Windows 7, and any Linux OS.

have been looking around for a while but have only been able to find one OS to another OS (windows 7 vs Mac 10.6 example). Need to list 30 features and the difference of them between OS's. Is there a universal comparison of feature's on OS', not just X to Y.

  • Boolean expressions, completely confused.?

    1. Using the symbolic representations for NOT, AND, and OR gates construct

logic gate circuits for the following Boolean expressions.

    a. (~P V ~Q) Λ (P V ~Q)

    b. ( (P Λ ~Q) Λ ( ~R V S) ) V T

    2. Prepare a complete Truth Table for the following expression. Fill in all

the values using T (True) or F (False).

    (~P V ~Q) Λ (P V ~Q)

I also have to write a boolean expression for a logic gate circuit. This was all done in the intro lesson for the scripting lesson of my IT course, i missed the lesson due to illness and haven't been able to get ahold of class notes. Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of a good resource to learn about boolean expressions, don't need in-depth knowledge on the matter, just enough to do the above questions. Thanks very much in advance, any help greatly appreciated.

  • Command line question?

Hey, so...I have to create a batch file which will:

    * backup all contents of a folder called 'myFiles' to a folder called 'myFilesBackup'.

    * If 'myFilesBackup' doesn't exist, it should create it.

    * If 'myFilesBackup' is empty it should copy all files including subdirectories.

    * If 'myFilesBackup' is not empty it should copy only newer files, without prompting.

    * not use absolute paths, only relative folder names.

Which command line should i use for this, i don't think copy would be able to perform all of the above. any help greatly appreciated

Almost everything you do on a computer involves some interaction between an application, the operating system and the computer hardware. Explain this interaction in simple terms using the following examples:

    1. You are working with a word processing document, and you issue the command to print.

    2. You are working with a spreadsheet and you issue the command to save.

Can someone give me a basic overview of the process the computer goes through in relation to the above scenarios?

  • the diagonal of a 1x1 unit square is equal to 2.?

okay so i came across an interesting theory the other day. using only vertical and horizontal lines to reach from corner of a perfect square to its vertical and horizontal opposite you will always travel the same distance. in the case of a 1x1 square, by travelling from the top-left corner to the bottom right corner using only diagonal and horizontal lines you will travel a distance of 2. no matter what path you take from one corner to its opposite in this situation the distance will be 2. even if it were composed of 1,000,000,000 horizontal and vertical steps

right now you probably think this is irrelevant because the hypotenuse would be a diagonal line. but think about this, a diagonal line is essentially composed of countless horizontal and vertical lines. the theory above stated is correct even if an infinite number of horizontal and vertical steps were used.

if you were to open up microsoft paint right now and draw a diagonal line in the smallest size, the line is not diagonal at all just a composition of vertical and horizontal lines, every line we have ever drawn can be broken down into vertical and horizontal lines. even the thinnest line drawn by the sharpest pencil can be broken down into smaller pieces

    what are your thoughts?

  • moving schools, dont know what to do?

ok so i have lived in Cairns all my life and in mid year 11 i changed schools to another school in cairns. I am starting Yr 12 next year and my mother was offered a work position in the gold coast. Since the school im at doesnt offer boarding, i have to either go the the school i was previously at which offered boarding, i left because i didnt really get along with a few people there. or i have to move to gold coast. Anything that will help me with this decision is greatly appreciated.

the thing is ive been at my current school for 1/2 a year and love it. i went to the previous school for 3 1/2 years but didnt really get along with many people there. so the option is boarding at a school i dont like or moving to a completely new school
